We left Chitina and stopped at the first place where we had phone service. I called the bank for balances and then paid a couple of mom's bills. When we started to leave the Pathfinder wouldn't start. (Jim forgot to turn the lights off when we stopped.) We flagged down a man with a truck load of kids and he gave us a jump. He was headed to his fish wheel on the Copper River near Chitina. (We bought a jumper cable at the next hardware store.) We stopped early at a great camping spot on the Little Nelchina River. There wasn't a sign for this former state recreation site, but it was listed in the milepost. We got a camping space all by ourselves a few feet from the river. The sun came out and it was a beautiful afternoon. We sat outside and read the paper and our books.
