We got up early to beat the rush for the showers. Then we updated the blog and went to Phil and Mary and their friends' campground camp for breakfast. Brian made bagel breakfast sandwiches with moose sausage patties. They were very yummy!! We left camp and went to the Edgerton Highway, headed toward Kennicott and McCarthy. We drove through Chitina and crossed the Copper River to the start of the McCarthy Road which goes into the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. At mile 1.4 we made camp at an Alaska DOT Campground just across the river. We unhooked and drove back to Chitina and down a side road to where the O'Brien Creek and the Copper River meet. There were people there dip-net fishing for salmon. There were six bald eagles and lots of sea gulls. Four of the eagles were adults and two were young. From the Copper River bridge you can see fish wheels being used to catch salmon. Mary said not to miss these. We have seen one or two but this collection was pretty amazing.
